Each painted piece is carved by hand. A pyrograph tool is then used to give texture to feathers. Finally the piece is carefully painted with acrylic watercolour.

Kingfishers are small unmistakable bright blue and orange birds. They fly rapidly, low over water, and hunt fish from riverside perches, occasionally hovering above the water's surface. Kingfishers are found by still or slow flowing water such as lakes, canals and rivers in lowland areas.

Sand martins have dark brown upper parts and dark under wings contrasting with otherwise pale under parts divided by a distinctive dark chest bar. Agile fliers, feeding mainly over water, they will perch on overhead wires or branches. They are gregarious in the breeding season and winter.  Found along rivers and other water bodies throughout the UK. Also found around man-made gravel pits where artificial nesting banks are sometimes provided.
